28/08: Gourmet August camp - Summer baking
Bring the bright, sunshine flavours of summer into your kitchen with this hands-on baking workshop for children! Discover the magic behind two timeless citrus classics — silky homemade lemon curd and a fluffy lemon and poppy seed cake.
This interactive class guides young bakers step-by-step through bright, zesty techniques and sunny summer flavours, from zesting and juicing fragrant lemons to whisking a glossy curd and folding poppy seeds into a soft, golden sponge. Discover the joy of turning a few simple ingredients into something dazzlingly fresh — bakes that taste like sunny afternoons in the garden, lemonade stands, and long summer holidays.
During the workshop, the children will:
Zest and juice fresh lemons, then whisk a silky, golden lemon curd from scratch
Bake a fluffy lemon and poppy seed cake, finished with a tangy lemon glaze
Explore the bright summer baking palette — fresh citrus, butter, sugar, and a flutter of poppy seeds
Practise key baking skills like creaming, folding, glazing, and finishing
Take home a little jar of homemade lemon curd and a slice (or two) of cake to share
Perfect for budding young bakers, citrus lovers, or any child who loves the magic of turning sunshine into something delicious. Enjoy a bright summer adventure — and take home the sunny treats you've baked!
